Here’s the question from the reader:
Was my friend confused or did I really miss the opportunity to earn Hyatt Globalist as of 2/28/2021 only needing 30 nights, but now 3/1 the requirement goes back up to 60 nights? Hoping my friend was confusing the end of the double stay promo?
There appears to be some confusion about the status requirements because of a promotion that just ended.
World of Hyatt launched a promotion last year during which the nights counted for both 2020 and 2021, and when the offer was extended through the end of February, the nights for the first two months of this year counted TWICE.
If there were no “rollover” nights from 2020, all you needed to do was to consume 15 nights in January and February 2021, to have 30 elite qualifying nights for the year, and have qualified for the Globalist status through early 2023.
The World of Hyatt status requirements in 2021 are:
- Discoverist – Stay five Tier-Qualifying Nights or earn 12,500 Base Points
- Explorist – Stay 15 Tier-Qualifying Nights or earn 25,000 Base Points
- Globalist – Stay 30 Tier-Qualifying Nights or earn 50,000 Base Points
Conclusion
Qualifying for World of Hyatt status for those outside of the United States and without credit cards doling out nights, considering the chain’s small print, has been challenging.
Hyatt moved away from stay or nights based qualification criteria back in 2017 while simultaneously changing the name from Gold Passport to World of Hyatt.
Previously, you could qualify for a Diamond (now Globalist) by staying 25 times or consuming 50 nights within a calendar year. World of Hyatt moved the goal post to 60 nights that is very challenging for those outside of the US.
Now, for a brief time, Hyatt made getting the top tier super easy by offering double nights for two months combined with halved qualification requirements for the entire 2021. If you timed your stays and nights right, you could have qualified by mid-January even when having no previous status at all.
