Hyatt has a new campaign for meeting planners, offering 20,000+ World of Hyatt Points per booked event, including social gatherings and weddings through December 31, 2023.
Each qualifying event must consist of a minimum $2,500 USD spent at participating Hyatt brands and properties and booked through the respective sales contact with the offer code GATHR.
The spending requirement is something that is the big difference to similar promotions by other programs that used to have special provisions for meeting arrangements.
For example, Marriott used to credit members with 10 Elite nights per meeting, but that also stopped in 2020 after which the elite nights were no longer given.
Now Hyatt has a similar campaign, but the kickback to the meeting manager will be credited in the form of Hyatt award points.
You can access the campaign website here.
Experience the joy of getting together again with family, friends and colleagues, and earn rewards when you book and hold your social or business gathering at a participating Hyatt hotel or resort by December 31, 2023. Events include — but are not limited to — dinner parties, getaways with close family and friends, intimate weddings, birthdays, receptions for religious milestones, reunions, corporate retreats, board meetings, office offsites, and holiday gatherings.
GATHER TOGETHER, CHOOSE YOUR REWARDS
Redeem your World of Hyatt Bonus Points for free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels and resorts worldwide. Visit hyatt.com/redeem to learn more.
Additionally, you can pick one of the following for even greater rewards:
- Get up to 10% of your event spend credited towards upgrades like complimentary guestrooms and enhanced food & beverage offerings.
- Take up to 10% off your master bill
To reserve your next gathering, call your Hyatt Sales representative or click to start an RFP. Mention offer code GATHR.
Each qualifying event must consist of a minimum $2,500 USD spend at participating Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Alila, Andaz, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Destination by Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, Hyatt Centric, Caption by Hyatt, JdV by Hyatt, Hyatt House and Hyatt Place hotels worldwide. …
This is already very straight forward and makes total sense. Hyatt incentivizes the company or individual that books the event in the way of a) crediting 10% back to the master bill or by providing a credit to be used on property as well as b) offering a points credit to the planning individual.
These are the points thresholds:
Event planners can earn World of Hyatt Bonus Points based on spend:
- World of Hyatt Bonus Points: Event planner must be a World of Hyatt member at the time of booking to benefit from this offer. Membership is free and enrollment is available at worldofhyatt.com or at a participating hotel. World of Hyatt reserves the right to rescind World of Hyatt Bonus Points, in whole or in part, in the event the event does not actualize. The number of World of Hyatt Bonus Points awarded is based on the estimated spend at time of contract (pre-tax and hotels fees) for the event. Points may be earned for eligible catering/banqueting charges incurred, exclusive of any taxes, gratuities, service charges and outside vendor/supplier charges. Bonus Points to be issued to member account once the event takes place. Earn up to a maximum amount of 150,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points. Redemption value is based on current award chart, which is subject to change:
- $2,500 USD equivalency total spend for event = 15,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
- $5,000 USD equivalency total spend for event = 30,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
- $10,000 USD equivalency total spend for event = 60,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
- $20,000 USD equivalency total spend for event = 90,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
- $30,000 USD equivalency total spend for event = 120,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
- $40,000 USD equivalency total spend for event = 150,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points towards free stays, dining, and spa services at participating hotels & resorts worldwide.
I find this threshold structure interesting and fair, although for the higher spend level I’d have assigned more points as 150k are a max of 4 nights at Hyatt’s 35k peak level.
When someone drops more than $40k at a hotel for a meeting this should be worth more to them than 150k points. Mind you the description of the promotion states that “Events include — but are not limited to — dinner parties, getaways with close family and friends, intimate weddings, birthdays, receptions for religious milestones, reunions, corporate retreats, board meetings, office offsites, and holiday gatherings.” so personal affairs such as weddings are explicitly included.
Since hotel weddings are still a big thing, those folks who are planning on holding a wedding at a hotel should definitely mention the promotion to their event sales coordinator at the property.
Conclusion
Meeting planners who organize an event at participating Hyatt Hotels can earn a number of WOH points based on the spend threshold for the event, plus there is an additional 10% kickback for the event itself that can be used on the property.
Unfortunately, the minimum spend to earn the 20,000 points is $2500, otherwise this could have been a great points source similar to what Marriott used to do with their 10 Elite nights. You were able to find cheap properties and rent an event room for an hour to “hold your meeting” which was priced at $100 and then you got the Elite night credit sometime within the next few weeks.
