Fares stayed very low in Europe, so there’s no reason to think they would go up here. The airlines will despise this but it’s desperately overdue.

Definitely, they will then do a backtrack of calculation as if this new rule was in place for ten yrs and come up with a theoretical cost increase percentage, and this will likely be the possible fare hike. Same as you buy a travel insurance, but now a mandatory one

I have had a long flight delay – 5 hours so a food voucher would be nice. When a weather cancellation forced me to stay overnight I just submitted my receipts to American Airlines and they reimbursed me.
