There was some confusion surrounding the Gold and Diamond benefits at these hotels because of a page on Hilton’s website that was incorrect (read more here). Hilton has now amended it with the correct Gold and Diamond benefits.

You can access Hilton’s Maldives benefits page here.

Conclusion

It is crucial that Hilton has the correct information on its website, and I am glad they fixed the omissions after we contacted them.

These hotels are unique compared to their usual land-based counterparts, and I have been to three of them.

There will be a sticker shock when it comes to the Food and Beverage prices on your first trip to the Maldives. This is because you are a captive guest at the property, and you absolutely cannot bring alcohol to the country (confiscated at the airport, and you can get them back when leaving), and everything is priced as such.

The offer is valid for purchases made through May 9, 2023.

Members can usually buy up to 80,000 points per calendar year, but the limit is now tripled to 240,000 points before the 100% bonus for a total of 480,000 points.

You can access Hilton’s web page for buying points here.

Conclusion

I like sales that allow you to buy a significant enough number of points you can redeem for five nights at most of the Hilton’s sought-after and expensive resorts.

Honors awards include all fees and taxes, including resorts and destination charges, often an additional 20-30% on top of the initial rate displayed. All elite members get the fifth night free when redeeming points.

The best use of Hilton Honors points is when and where the paid rates are through the roof, such as the Maldives or French Polynesia properties. I am currently holding on to six 5-night reservations for Maldives and French Polynesia that have tied up all my 3M HH points. I will likely buy some more during this sale.

Here are the terms and conditions of this promotion:

Points purchased do not count towards elite tier qualification. Points.com and Hilton Honors reserve the right to terminate bonus promotions at any time. All purchases must be made through the Purchase page on HiltonHonors.com. All purchases are non-refundable. Offer is subject to change. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer. A reader forwarded us a Hilton page highlighting Gold and Diamond benefits at these four hotels that had been going online over the past week. Unfortunately, the page implies that Gold and Diamond members are not eligible for complimentary breakfast at SAii Lagoon Maldives (Curio Collection) and Waldorf Astoria.

You can access Hilton’s page for Maldives Gold and Diamond benefits here.

We were in touch with a Hilton spokesperson who told us the following:

All hotels in the Maldives, including those mentioned below, offer complimentary breakfast to Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members. We are making some updates to the site to avoid any potential confusion going forward.

Conclusion

I knew that the breakfast omission by these two hotels was either a mistake or an oversight, and this page was not new (you can always check the history).

But I think it is good to highlight the unique circumstances at these hotels regarding upgrades, happy hour/afternoon tea, and VIP amenities.

This new brand, Hilton’s 20th or so, will cater to those staying, on average, 20 to 30 days, and should be very profitable for the developers due to cheap construction and few employees required.

You can access Hilton here.

READ MORE: Hilton Honors Rate & Bonus Points Offers

Possible Brand Names:

I went through Hilton’s recent trademark filings, and quite a few were filed recently. Based on the earnings call, the closest one would probably be the Livsmart Suites.

It is clear that Hilton is working on a “suite” brand based on the trademarks in the process; Dwelling Suites, Suitely, Dvelve Suites, Adapt Suites, Belong Suites, H3 Suites, Suite Start, and Pixel by Hilton, Gleam by Hilton, and Twilo by Hilton.

Relevant Parts of the Earnings Call:

We’re getting ready to launch another brand sort of at the — in the extended-stay space at the lower end, mid-scale, very low end of mid-scale, below home to that we have — we’ve been working with our ownership community and customers on that while it will be a newbuild product, it will be a very efficient build cost.

So again, the things — my history of this living through The Great Recession, all that is your lower cost to build products that have — that are very high margin because people make the most money doing it and they’re the lowest risk and they’re the easiest financed. Those are the ones that get going the fastest. And so again, we didn’t develop this brand that we’re getting ready to launch, hopefully, in the next 30 or 60 days because of this. We launched because customers want it, owners want to build it. But again, it won’t have any effect this year but starting probably the latter part of ’24, more likely ’25 as people look at a brand that can deliver just astronomical margins on a very efficient per unit build cost, we think it will build a lot of excitement.

And:

And so the fundamentals we think are just great. The way I think about the product that we’re developing, and I’m getting ahead of myself, but it’s coming really soon. I mean, down we have — we’ve built it. We’ve done 99% of the work. It’s almost a hybrid. It’s like an apartment efficiency meets hotel. And I’d say it’s almost like 60-40. It’s more apartment efficiency. There’s so many workforce housing needs that are just unmet with this kind of product for somebody who needs to be somewhere 30, 60, 90, 120 days.

So you’re talking about average length of stay of probably 20 to 30 days on average versus most of the core extended-stay brands are like 5 to 10 maybe, somewhere in that range, if you look at the industry. So it’s a different demand base, different types of locations, which is why we love it because we’re not serving it, meaning it’s not competitive with what we’re doing with Home2 and certainly not competitive with Homewood because it’s serving a totally different need, mostly in totally different markets. And as I said, we — I didn’t intend to go this far, sorry.

But this is hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hotels over time. This is not like we’re going to do 50 or 100 of these. I mean, you’ll wake up over time in 10 years, and will — it will be like Home2. We’ll have 4, 5, 6. We’ll have a lot of these because we think the need is there now and growing.

And our system delivers. The system delivers the highest market share in the business. So if you’re an owner thinking about I’m going to build a similar product somewhere else, I mean, you’re going to look at the system strength. And ultimately, I think, historically, people vote with their feet. They vote with a product that they think will work better from a customer point of view, ultimately, higher margins and drive higher share.

Home2 Suites Is a Very High Margin:

Home2 has been off the hooks in demand throughout all of COVID and otherwise because people make — such customers love it, it’s very high margin. We think customers are going to love this. It’s something different. It’s at a lower price point. But the margins are much even higher than that. And so again, it will take time to gestate that, but we think that is a mega brand opportunity for us that as we think about more likely ’25, ’26, even in an environment that’s been more challenging — is more challenging from a financing point of view, as the financing markets come back and they always do, it’s those products that really get done fastest. And so we feel good about being around 5 and headed back to 6 to 7 over the next couple of years, and it will be a combo platter of all of those things that you said and that I just spoke to.

Conclusion

The Hilton Honors benefits at this soon-to-be-launched extended stay brand are likely minimal and point earnings at or lower than at the Home2 Suites, which was referred to several times during the earnings call.

Hilton expects to have hundreds of these lower-end midscale extended stay hotels in a few years, as it is easier to sell to developers who can get these financed from local and regional banks.

You have to keep in mind that we all love to stay at full-service and luxury hotels, but the bread and butter business for most of these chains is really the select service and lower-end properties; when you look at the number of hotels under various brands (45 Conrad hotels versus 2,863 Hampton Inns).

Reader’s Message:

Hi, I am a AMEX Asipre card holder, and I have made a reservation using Hilton Night Certificate via Hilton Honors Twitter in March 2023.

What I asked to book is Garden Inn, Albany, West Australia. But the customer service Book the Garden Inn, Albany in US for me …

I only found that when I trying to checkin the hotel in West Australia, and they told me that there are no such booking. And unfortunately, the hotel was full booking that night, and I have to find another hotel that night.

Although the twitter cs able to cancel the wrong reservation for me, but they refuse to extend the expiration of the night certificate (originally expire on 3rd Jul 2023) for 3 months to half year. The cs only offer to extend the expiration for 2 weeks according to the TnC.

Because I wont have another trip before Octpber 2023,it’s really difficult for me to use the night certificate, and it’s not my fault not using the night certificate before the expiration date, would you please advice am I eligible for any compensation for the fault the Hilton Twitters cs have done ?

Thank you so much for your help.

We often hear cases where someone ends up in the wrong Sydney (Canada instead of Australia) or Oakland versus Auckland. However, this is the first time I have encountered someone who booked the wrong Albany (Australia versus the US).

Although it was not the reader’s fault that the Hilton booked them at the wrong Hilton Garden Inn, we are all responsible for checking reservation confirmations.

I have sometimes thought to have booked something but have failed the press the last confirm button (I just did this last week). I only figure it out when the reservation confirmation email doesn’t arrive.

Conclusion.

Folks – always check the confirmation emails you receive from the hotels and airlines, especially if you have not booked online.

More than once, I have come across agents with absolutely no idea about the geography. I am sure that most of Hilton’s Twitter customer support agents book Hilton Garden Inns, Albany, for stays in the US and not Western Australia.

Perhaps the reader could squeeze in another trip or staycation over the northern summer months to not let the certificate go to waste.

Reader’s Monthly Account Statement:

A reader forwarded me an email they had received from Hilton that was the monthly statement with the current 2023 status progress, but it also included some interesting information at the bottom.

It shows that the reader was 49 nights short of Lifetime Diamond status on March 31, 2023.

Hilton Lifetime Diamond Status 2023 Piece:

Hilton Lifetime Diamond Requirements & Progress In 2023 (Where’s The Counter?)

Conclusion

It would be about time for Hilton to get this information up on its website.

How difficult can it really be to show how many years of Diamond status an account holder has had and the total number of consumed nights?

I am glad that Hilton is including this information at the bottom of some of its emails, but I have yet to receive one from Hilton even when I am somewhere between 10 to 20 nights of hitting the magic 1,000 nights mark.

READ MORE: Hilton Honors Rate & Bonus Points Offers

What got me worried about this product was the following part on the Hilton’s T&Cs:

A “stay” is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not a guest checks out and checks back in again.

Specifically excluded from the definition of “stay” are the following types of ineligible stays: wholesale/tour operator packages; contracted crew rates; travel agency discount rates; packages exclusively for casino player card holders; unauthorized Members staying on Go Hilton Team Member or Family & Friends Travel Rates; stays secured utilizing Hilton Grand Vacations Club and Hilton Club timeshare programs, HiltonGetaways.com bookings; Hilton Grand Vacations marketing packages with a sales presentation requirement; complimentary or barter rooms; NET Group rates; Series Group or IT Group rates; contracted Entertainment or Encore rates; third party websites bookings (irrespective of rate paid); and “opaque” channel bookings where the brand may or may not be known at the time of purchase.

The Hilton T&Cs explicitly state that HiltonGetaways.com bookings wouldn’t constitute a valid stay that is important for all Honors members because eligible stay allows you to earn points, qualifying nights, receive elite benefits and possible upgrades.

We have confirmed with Hilton that HiltonGetaways bookings are eligible for elite night credit and on-property benefits, such as lounge access, breakfast, and upgrades. So, the T&Cs on Hilton’s website are incorrect.

Hilton Honors members earn 3,000 points for each package purchased, but to my understanding, no other points are earned for the hotel portion.

Eligible stay/night should, however, yield any promotion bonus from Honors promotions that are not based on the spend but on the number of nights/stays, like when you earn bonus points for award stays.

Search For Barcelona:

Essentially an Expedia search is only returning Hilton-affiliated hotels.

You can choose the preferred room type.

And between various flights by several airlines.

The form later prompts for your Hilton Honors number to “collect your rewards.”

Conclusion

Hotels, airlines, and car rental companies offer discounted rates, not publicly available, for travel sector companies, often for OTAs and travel agents, that can use them to sell packages that allow consumers to buy them at a discount.

I have not played around on this pilot website to see if they offer special fares for hotels and airlines.

It is interesting to see how hotels handle the elite member treatment of reservations coming through from Expedia, as they are usually excluded.

I have not yet seen Hilton promoting this product and what approach they take. However, Marriott has already offered packages for a while through a partnership with the same company – Expedia.
